Health and Wellbeing

Supporting Every Young Person to Thrive

At River Tyne Academy, the health and wellbeing of our pupils is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that positive wellbeing is the foundation for successful learning, healthy relationships, and future success. Many of our pupils have faced challenges in their educational journey, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where they can rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and achieve their potential.

Our Health and Wellbeing curriculum forms a key part of our Personal Development offer and focuses on supporting pupils’ physical, emotional, social, and mental wellbeing. Through a combination of high-quality PSHE education, pastoral support, enrichment opportunities, and therapeutic interventions, we help pupils develop the skills and strategies needed to understand and manage their wellbeing effectively.

Our Approach

Wellbeing is embedded throughout Academy life and is promoted through:

  • PSHE and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing education.
  • Physical activity and healthy lifestyle opportunities.
  • Mindfulness, self-regulation, and resilience-building activities.
  • Positive relationships and restorative approaches.
  • Tutor time, assemblies, and personal development activities.
  • Enrichment opportunities that promote confidence and social connection.
  • Access to targeted pastoral and therapeutic support.

Every pupil is known, valued, and supported as an individual. Strong relationships between pupils, staff, families, and external agencies ensure that young people receive the right support at the right time.

The Impact

Our Health and Wellbeing curriculum helps pupils develop the confidence, resilience, and self-awareness needed to navigate life’s challenges. Pupils learn how to recognise and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, make informed choices, and seek support when needed.
