Careers Curriculum (Preparation for Adulthood)

At River Tyne Academy, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to develop aspirations, discover their strengths, and build a successful future. Careers education is a key part of our Personal Development curriculum and plays a vital role in preparing pupils for adulthood, employment, further education, and independent living.

We understand that many of our pupils have experienced challenges in their educational journey. Our careers programme is designed to raise aspirations, build confidence, and provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to explore their interests, talents, and future pathways.

Through a personalised and supportive approach, pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to make informed decisions about their next steps. We encourage all pupils to recognise their potential and understand the wide range of opportunities available to them.

Our Careers Programme

Throughout their time at River Tyne Academy, pupils will have access to a broad range of careers and preparation for adulthood experiences, including:

  • Dedicated Careers and Preparation for Adulthood lessons.
  • Careers education embedded across the curriculum.
  • Information about further education, apprenticeships, training providers, and employment pathways.
  • Encounters with employers, colleges, universities, and training providers.
  • Workplace visits and experiences of the world of work.
  • Careers fairs, workshops, and enterprise activities.
  • Visiting speakers from a range of professions and industries.
  • Mock interviews and employability skills development.
  • Support with applications, CV writing, and transition planning.
  • Independent careers guidance from qualified careers professionals.

Personalised Support

We recognise that every pupil’s journey is unique. Some young people may require additional support to help them identify and achieve their aspirations. Our careers programme is therefore tailored to meet individual needs, ensuring all pupils receive the guidance and encouragement required to make successful transitions into education, employment, or training.

Support may be provided for pupils who are:

  • At risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
  • Disadvantaged or vulnerable.
  • In receipt of Pupil Premium funding.
  • New to the country or learning English as an Additional Language.
  • Unsure about their future pathway or career goals.

By working closely with families, external agencies, colleges, employers, and training providers, we ensure that every pupil is supported to make ambitious and realistic plans for their future.

Our Vision

Our aim is that every pupil leaves River Tyne Academy with a clear destination, increased confidence, and the skills needed to succeed in adult life. We want our young people to be aspirational, resilient, and equipped to take their next steps with confidence, whether that be further education, training, employment, or independent living.
