British Values

At River Tyne Academy, we are committed to developing confident, respectful, and responsible young people who are prepared for life in modern Britain. As part of our Personal Development curriculum, we actively promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

We recognise that our role extends beyond academic achievement. We support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, helping them to understand their place within society and empowering them to become active, positive citizens.

British Values are embedded throughout our curriculum and wider school life. Through PSHE, assemblies, enrichment activities, educational visits, and daily interactions, pupils are encouraged to explore different viewpoints, understand their rights and responsibilities, and develop respect for themselves and others.

Our relational approach helps pupils understand the importance of rules, fairness, and accountability, while opportunities for pupil voice encourage participation in decision-making and foster a sense of belonging. We celebrate diversity and promote inclusion, helping pupils to appreciate and respect different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs.

By embedding British Values into everyday learning and experiences, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to thrive in a diverse society. We want every young person to leave River Tyne Academy with the confidence to make positive choices, contribute to their community, and embrace the opportunities available to them.
