Target Tuesday

Supporting Progress, Voice and Personal Development

At River Tyne Academy, Target Tuesday is a dedicated weekly opportunity for pupils to reflect on their personal development, review progress, and take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.

We recognise that many of our pupils benefit from structured, consistent support that helps them feel heard, understood, and confident in their next steps. Target Tuesday provides a calm, supportive space for pupils and staff to come together to discuss individual targets linked to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or personalised learning and development goals.

The aim of Target Tuesday is to empower pupils to understand their goals, recognise their achievements, and take increasing ownership of their progress over time.

Why Target Tuesday Matters

Regular, meaningful conversations help us to:

  • Monitor progress consistently and identify successes and challenges early.
  • Provide timely and personalised support that meets individual needs.
  • Strengthen relationships and build trust between pupils and staff.
  • Encourage pupils to reflect on their learning and personal development.
  • Support pupils to develop confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Adapt support strategies to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
  • Recognise achievements and celebrate progress, no matter how small.
  • Ensure a collaborative approach between pupils, staff, and families where appropriate.

Our Approach

During Target Tuesday sessions, pupils are supported to:

  • Review their personal targets and progress.
  • Discuss what is working well and what could be improved.
  • Set new or adjusted goals where appropriate.
  • Identify barriers to learning and explore strategies to overcome them.
  • Develop a clear understanding of their next steps.

These conversations are positive, supportive, and solution-focused, ensuring that pupils feel motivated and valued.

The Impact

Target Tuesday helps pupils to build confidence, resilience, and self-awareness. By taking an active role in reviewing their own progress, pupils develop important life skills such as reflection, communication, and independence.
